Delphine Kini Mae:
Originally from a small Pacific Asiatic island named Taiwan in Asia, Delphine has practiced in New York, San Francisco, other parts of Asia and Europe. She has studied in Dance/Theatre from the Institute of Arts in Asia, modern/contemporary dance in the United States, And a study diploma in Physical Theatre and Mime special forcus on dance in MimeCentre Finland. She is currently on leave from UVA Film Netherlands.
Aside from installing and picking up lost shoes and conversations on the streets around the world, she was also a guest artist for contemporary performance in University of California at Davis.
Delphine's work has been selected in festivals such as the Buddhist-inspired International Video and Performance Festival in Marsh, Dada Fest, In the Street Festiva, San Francsico International Butoh Festival, SF MOMA Benefit, and International Film Festival Gala. Delphine has also collaborated with performance groups as well as served as the artistic director for HumanSewingMachine.
Her recent interests has been focused in cultural diversity and global mobility and its effects on perception of the human physical and emotional spheres. Delphine's work/performances often reflect a combination of different styles such as Butoh, contemporary dances, oriental folk dance gestures, street dances, traditional mask dance theatre, Chinese opera style/martial arts practices, ect. Her other special interest is to create site-specific works of performantive installation work which transports every space into a intimate internal emotional journey.
In Europe, Delphine has been performing in a monthly experimental performance forum in OVT301, Amsterdam, for the 2005 Feb/Mrach/May as well as teaching as a international guest resident teacher with movements/theatre for YPOT301, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Another performance lab project with Schmiede-Hallein in 2005 which is also part of Salzburg SommerSzene, Austria. Consequently, 2006 with MFMC project, and 2007 with the dance film project Mirgationlovesongseries1.
Her collaboration and performance works in Europe also include: 'Lust Am Risiko', an interactive installation performance evening, at SEAD(Salzburg, Experiment Academy of Dance); 'Glück', a dance silent film with soundtrack, produced and directed by Laura Nöbauer,which won the Austria ORF 'Shorts on Screen' award, shown as a special feature in the 2007 Diagonale Film Festival and CrossingEurope FilmFestival; 'Slap!' Music Video, top rated music video of the month by Youtube; 'Long River Calls out My Name', ArgeKultur, March 2007, Franz Josef China Fest, July 2007, among others.
Miss Mae has also been active in producing, directing, and choreographying her own dance films ever since her award-winning performance in the GLÜCK07. In recent year, she has also established herself as a site-sepcific performative-video installation artist, showing her works in austria, Norway,ect. while maintaining her teaching role as a workshop teacher mingling butoh/viewpoint/martialarts/physicaltheatre trainings to create unique wholistic teaching methods for all levels.
Delphine is currently based in central and northern Europe.
